The Workshop

This is a work in progress. It will take shape with the people who get involved early. Below is a rough sketch of what it could be.

While Parlanchín Community is a place to meet people and discuss ideas in edTech and to socialize, Parlanchín Workshop is an idea that goes one step further: A group of people who are currently building something in the edTech space or are interested in doing so and who want to build it alongside others who care about its progress, who can help them make it better and keep them accountable for their progress.

Who Might This Interest?

  • A teacher with an idea for a classroom tool who doesn't know how to build it.
  • A developer building an educational app who needs to understand how teachers and learners actually work.
  • Someone experimenting with AI and education who wants to test an idea with people who bring different perspectives.
  • Anyone with a problem to solve in the educational domain and wants to solve it out loud and in public and possibly with others

Structure

This is still open and will evolve with any early members deciding where to take it. Some ideas I have are the following:

  • Show & Tell: Occasionally meet for a show and tell session of what you are building. Could be private or open to anyone.
  • Brainstorming: Get together locally and just for fun see if we can come up with a small worthwhile problem to solve that might turn into a nice open source tool for teachers or students or a product idea.
  • Hackathons: Organize hackathons or project sprints to build any ideas from above.
  • Check-ins: A channel (on Whatsapp, Discord or similar) where we periodically update everyone on what’s new on our project and keep the interest alive.
  • Tooling: Create useful resources for members or the general public. e.g. small packages which solve a common problem people building in this space encounter, prompts & workflow kits for teachers (not everything needs to be a piece of software), pool useful information and personal stories related to understanding local and EU laws on data , data and minors, accessibility laws etc…

Two Key Points

  • You own what you build. Your personal project or projects stays yours, and live outside of the workshop. This is just a place to get feedback from others and if you bring on a collaborator, you agree terms together.
  • Shared things are shared. Members may decide to make a reusable package or small library, or other resources open to either members or general public. These would be either open source or private (available to members) and licensed (MIT or CC for non-tech resources)

Get involved

If this sounds interesting, message me on LinkedIn and tell me what you’d hope to get from a group like this and any ideas you have on the shape it could take. Early members will help decide what the Workshop becomes.
